Coinbase Tokenized Stocks Go Live on Base Bringing Apple and NVIDIA Shares to DeFi 24/7

by Claire Scott

Tokenized versions of major US stocks are going live on Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 network.

Base says tokenized stocks issued by top US crypto exchange Coinbase are now live on the chain.

The stocks are built on the network’s native token B20, which represent real shares held 1:1 by a regulated custodian in a bankruptcy-remote structure.

Eligible non-US users can hold fractional shares of companies including Apple and NVIDIA directly in self-custody wallets. The tokenized stocks allow for 24/7 on-chain trading.

Base is highlighting the launch with a clear message.

“Tokenized stocks are live on Base, and ready for builders.”

The announcement emphasizes a bigger vision for on-chain finance.

“[On Monday], we took a big step towards that vision as tokenized stocks issued by Coinbase, built on the B20 standard, are now live natively on Base. These are real shares, held 1:1 by a regulated custodian, owned outright by whoever holds the token.”

B20 tokens are ERC-20 compatible enabling seamless use across wallets and protocols with dividends and splits handled via an on-chain multiplier.

More Coinbase tokenized stocks are expected in the coming weeks.

Coinbase is using decentralized oracle network Chainlink to provide continuous price data for the tokenized shares.
